The Wakefield Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Full-Time Police Officer.  Pay rate $24.00 - $34.20 per hour. Benefits: Dental insurance, Health insurance, Paid time off. Short/Long Term Disability and Life Insurance are paid 100% by the Town of Wakefield.  The Town of Wakefield also participates in the NHRA pension program.  Applicants must possess H.S. diploma or equivalent; be 21 years old at time of appointment; possess valid driver’s license; be a U.S. citizen; be in good physical condition; and possess the ability and desire to work with the public.  Candidates are expected to participate in and pass the following areas: Physical Agility Test, Oral Board Interview, Psychological Examination, Medical Screen, Drug Screen, and Interview with the Chief of Police.  Non-Certified applicants are expected to attend Full-Time NH Police Academy upon hire and obtain Full-Time Police Officer certification.  Applications are available online at www.wakefieldnh.com  Those that are eligible to apply can submit an application and resume to Lieutenant Chris Waldron at cwaldron@wakefieldnh.com or call 522-3232 with any questions.

​The Wakefield NH Police Department primarily finds potential hire candidates through the Great Bay Community College (GBCC) Police exam.  This exam is offered quarterly at the GBCC Portsmouth Campus, to sign up for the next exam go here: https://www.greatbay.edu/business-community/business-training-center/police-testing-alliance/

The Wakefield NH Police Department conducts a hiring process to include Physical Fitness Testing, an Oral Board panel, and a Chief's Interview.   Approved Candidates will be offered a Conditional Offer of employment.  The Conditional Offer includes a thorough Background Investigation, a Psychiatric Examination, a Criminal History check, a Motor Vehicle check, and may include a Polygraph Test.  Qualified applicants will then begin their Field Training with the Department.  This include Firearms qualifications, Defensive Tactics education, and other Law Enforcement training.  The newly hired Candidate will also be required to attend the 16 week Full Time Police Academy in Concord (NH Police Standards and Training Council) and a required 3 year contract upon completion.
